Dean’s Bio

Dean and Viviane

Dean and his children, Kathryn and Reed.

I’m from a small town called Cottlesville, Newfoundland. It is a place with one convenience store, one hairdresser and a large fish plant where most of the people work. No one had much, but everyone in the community of 400 knew each other and we had a lot of compassion, a lot of emotion and unconditional giving that made it a wonderful place to grow up.

After six years in Toronto, with various jobs from working for the City of Scarborough to working in education, I loaded up my truck and motorcycle and headed north looking for adventure.

I arrived in Whitehorse in 1991. Even though I didn’t buy furniture for a year, I fell in love with the place and knew immediately I’d stay. The landscape and the small-town atmosphere are the closest I could find to that of Newfoundland making this a great place to raise kids. I was a contractor, a private investigator for law firms and insurance companies, owned a car rental business and photo shop in Skagway and, in 1996, a janitorial business.

Today, as a realtor with RE/MAX Action Realty, my approach to real estate is to educate my customers and clients about the markets -- whether buying or selling -- including the various processes so that he or she can make a decision that is right for them. I treat my clients with respect and honesty and I know most people can make their own decisions when they have the best information at hand. They don’t need, nor do they want, high-pressure sales.

Though Cottlesville remains a part of me, I’m proud of my decision to live in Whitehorse. I feel fortunate to work with the people of the Yukon and I strive to be considered a good and positive neighbour. I loved that feeling of community in Cottlesville and I want to help nurture more … here in Whitehorse.
